DW SonicPly combines aircraft-grade aluminum with an American Maple shell for enhanced attack and articulation, offering warm tonality and focused sustain.

Hybrid Metal / Maple Shells
10" - 24" SonicPly drums feature a 9-Ply 333™ Maple shell with a 1/36" Aluminum sheet replacing the middle ply. SonicPly snare drums feature a 12-Ply Maple shell with two 1/36" Aluminum Sheets sandwiching the middle plies.
Sound Comparison
Compared to the neutral tone of a Pure Maple 333 drum shell, the SonicPly shell produces a higher pitch, brighter tone, and shorter sustain. Combining the warm resonance of Maple with the dry attack of Aluminum results in a bright and resonant but controlled and consistent drum sound perfect for touring and studio drummers alike.
